Krüll's works are in the tradition of German Romanticism . The Lower Rhine , extensive travels and his preoccupation with indigenous cultures are characteristic of his work .

After a first abstract painting phase, Karl Krüll turned to Pop Art . During the 1970s, his interest in ethnographic topics came to the fore. 10 years later, the first trance drawings and dream works (photos, actions, projects) are created. At the same time, Krüll develops and teaches a method of creativity development based on the creative practice of dream processing, as practiced by the nomadic tribe of the JaHut in central West Malaisia.

His current work focuses on drawing , digital graphics and photo clusters.
