Karl war
Karl Krieg also Kriegk († May 9, 1711 in Lübeck ) was a German painter.
Life
Nothing is known about Karl Krieg's origins and training. In 1680 he painted a painting for the audience hall in Lübeck's town hall . In 1693 he is proven to be the teacher of the painter Jürgen Wulff. On May 9, 1695, he became a citizen of Lübeck and a free master and married the widow of the portrait painter Franz Oesterreich . He became the stepfather of the Lübeck painter Catharina Elisabeth Heinecken . Together with and for Thomas Quellinus he worked on the baroque high altar of the Marienkirche in Lübeck ( Fredenhagen Altar ) donated by the merchant and councilor Thomas Fredenhagen , which was completed in 1697. From 1706 to 1708 the pulpit of the Aegidienkirche was built according to his design by the sculptor Hans Freese .
