Karl Krziwanek (born May 11, 1834 in Vienna ; † September 25, 1874 ) was an Austrian dealer for photography supplies and owner of a lithographic establishment. During his lifetime he was the owner of the sole proprietorship "Karl Krziwanek", the name of which was continued after his death.

Karl Krizwanek was the son of Johann Ludwig Krziwanek (1795–1861, born in Bohemia, doctor of law, member of the Vienna Law Faculty, district judge and glass manufacturer) and Barbara, née. Hafenbrädl (glassmaker's daughter).

Karl Krziwanek created two pillars for his company. From the beginning he ran a lithographic establishment. Here cardboard boxes were cut and the lapels decorated . Cardboard boxes were necessary as a base for the wafer-thin photo papers, which had a tendency to roll up. In the course of time he then supplied the almost complete equipment for photographic studios such as backgrounds, furniture and other furnishings. He had already received an award for this at the exhibition in Hamburg in 1868. Lenses, cameras and accessories were added over the years. He also had plates, photo papers and chemicals on offer.

Karl Krziwanek's company was successful. The company was founded at the time when the carte-de-viste was beginning to establish itself as the most popular format for photographs. In 1867 Krziwanek's company delivered around 1.5 million "visiting boxes" to the Viennese photographers.

Karl Krziwanek was a member of the Photographische Gesellschaft in Vienna and temporarily its auditor and member of the committee.

Company Karl Krziwanek or K. Krziwanek

After Karl Krziwanek's death, his wife Leonie became the owner of the company, which was founded in 1860. Franz Exner was registered as authorized signatory in 1875. At least until 1900 he remained an employee in a managerial position. As head of the lithographic establishment, Mr. Gärtner was responsible. In 1900 it celebrated its 25th anniversary. Heinrich Tausenau († 1891) and Jean Mainguet were temporarily responsible as authorized signatories. Another employee was Julius Türk.

The social conditions are not cleared up. Around 1880 the lawyer Carl Ritter von Tarnóczy-Sprinzenberg was temporarily named as managing director. After Karl Beck, accountant in the company Kühle & Milesche and the traveler Johann Prihoda had founded the company "Prihoda & Beck" in 1907 with the aim of trading in photographic supplies, they took over the company "Karl Krziwanek" in the same year. The name "Karl Krziwanek Nachf. Prihoda & Beck" was retained for a few years.
