Karl Ludwig von der Schulenburg

Karl Ludwig Graf von der Schulenburg (born January 26, 1799 in Altenhausen ; † November 28, 1880 there ) was a Prussian landowner, insurance director and member of parliament.

Life

Von der Schulenburg was the son of the landowner August Graf von der Schulenburg auf Altenhausen and his wife Friederike Wilhelmine Dorothee von Kleist. He and his brothers initially received home schooling. From 1815 he attended the Pädagogium the Monastery of Our Lady of Magdeburg From Easter 1818, he studied in Berlin law . In addition, he attended agricultural lectures and acquired knowledge of new agronomic methods. In 1821 he returned to his parents' estate to help his father manage the property. After the death of his father in 1838 he took over the management of the estate. He first became owners of Altenhausen together with his brother Bernhard (1809–1872). After Bernhard's death in 1872 was sole landlord. He had Altenhausen Castle expanded by several extensions and continued the extensive renovation work that his father had begun to increase the yield of the fields.

In 1824 Schulenburg became district director of the Magdeburgische Land-Feuer-Societät . From 1832 to 1874 and 1879/80 he was general director of this insurance company. During this time he did a lot for the company. He enforced the independence and continued self-administration of the society against the provincial parliament of the province of Saxony . During his tenure, the total amount insured rose to more than 415 million. Mark.

Von der Schulenburg was a district deputy for many years. Several times he was appointed interim administrator of the district office of Neuhaldensleben . He was repeatedly a member of the provincial parliament of the province of Saxony.
