from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Markl (born May 5, 1827 in Moravičany , † June 21, 1898 in Karlovy Vary ) was an Austrian officer and military engineer .

Life

Born in Moravia as the son of a forester , he began his technical training at the Vienna kk polytechnic institute in 1843 , which he completed in 1847. In 1849 he joined the Imperial and Royal Army , attended the sapper corps school and, from 1856, the higher genius course at the genius academy in Znojmo .

In the years 1864 to 1869 he worked together with Karl Pilhal , whom he represented as object commander, on the construction of the Kronprinz-Rudolf-Kaserne (today Rossauer Kaserne ). Promoted to captain in 1865 , he performed managerial tasks in the military construction service. He worked in Graz , Arad (Romania) , Zara ( Croatia ) and Lemberg ( Ukraine ), among others , until he was employed as a major in the staff of genius in Vienna in 1870 .

In 1884 he was found unsuitable for promotion to chief of genius because he had too little field service experience. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to major general in the staff of genius and retired due to illness.

meaning

Apart from his involvement in the construction of the Kronprinz-Rudolf-Kaserne in Vienna, little is known about Markl's other construction activities. How far Markl was involved in the planning of the barracks cannot be determined. His job description shows that he was “thoroughly versed in architecture and also creative”.
