Karl Merz (composer)

Karl Merz (born September 19, 1836 in Bensheim , † January 30, 1890 in Wooster , Ohio ) was an American composer of German descent.

Merz came to Philadelphia in 1854 , where he was organist in a Presbyterian church and violinist in a theater orchestra. From 1861 to 1882 he was music director in Ohio, then music director at the College of Wooster . He composed several operettas, chamber music works, piano and organ pieces, choral works and songs.
