Karl Ostricek (* around 1900; † May 7, 1930 ) was an Austrian national soccer player . Between 1921 and 1924 he guarded the goal of the Austrian national team 17 times .

Career

Karl Ostricek began his goalkeeping career in first class at the favorite club ASV Hertha Wien , where he regularly succeeded for the first time in the 1917/18 season in ousting former national goalkeeper Anton Desnohlidek out of the gate. In the championship he could not play a significant role with Hertha, but Karl Ostricek knew how to please and from 1920 played regularly in the Viennese team. His international debut on March 26, 1921 was accompanied by strange circumstances, because Otto Janczik from the WAF should have played against Sweden , but he had got stage fright. Substitute Ostricek also played a nervous game at 2-2, but was able to excel in the 4-1 win against Hungary a month later - he saved a penalty, among other things - and therefore established himself as a single goal for the following years until the end of 1924.

In the 1923/24 season Karl Ostricek occupied a relegation place with Hertha, so he moved to Vienna . He achieved great success as a cup finalist in 1925 and the runner-up in 1926. In the final of the ÖFB Cup , Ostricek's team had taken the lead against the amateurs thanks to Antonin Bulla , but in the pouring rain the Döblinger had to admit defeat 1: 3. After Hertha rose again, Karl Ostricek went back to his home club in Favoriten. However, an eye disease and the associated increasing blindness made it increasingly difficult for him to continue playing football. At the age of 29, he committed suicide on May 7, 1930.
