Karl Otto Ludwig von Arnim (born August 1, 1779 in Berlin ; † February 9, 1861 there ) was a German writer .

Life

The offspring of the Prussian noble family von Arnim studied law in Halle and Göttingen . After completing his studies, he made numerous trips through Europe before entering the Prussian diplomatic service. He then lived for a long time in Stockholm as an embassy attaché to the Prussian embassy. He discovered his musical interests early on. Back in Berlin he led the royal theater several times on an interim basis and, having retired from the diplomatic service, began traveling again in 1835, this time through southern Europe. He described these journeys in the 6-volume Fleeting Remarks of a Fleeting Traveler , which were published from 1837 to 1850 and had several editions. Before that, I had written and worked for the stage. In Berlin in 1821 he brought out a comedy in five acts, New Means, Old Debts to Pay (after Kassinger) and wrote the comedy in four acts Der Smaragdring , which premiered on April 10, 1828 in Berlin under the name C. Marinof experienced.

Karl Otto Ludwig von Arnim was the older brother of the writer Achim von Arnim .
