Karl Rübel (historian)

Karl Rübel (born February 24, 1848 in Dortmund , † January 19, 1916 there ) was a German historian and archivist.

He studied history and received his doctorate with a historical thesis entitled De fontibus quatuor priorum historiae Augustae scriptorum , 1872, at the University of Bonn .

He then worked in Dortmund as a teacher and as the first scientific director of the Dortmund city archive .

He published several historical works on the city history of Dortmund and the Carolingian era as well as the Carolingian courts , the Franks , etc. During his lifetime, he was a leading member of the Historical Association for Dortmund and the Grafschaft Mark eV In addition, in March 1896 he was one of the founding members of Historical Commission for Westphalia .

His successor as city archivist in Dortmund was Luise von Winterfeld .

His son Karl Rübel (1895–1945) was a lieutenant general in the Wehrmacht.
