Anna Dorothea Luise von Winterfeld (born June 10, 1882 in Metz , German Empire , † July 21, 1967 in Dortmund ) was a German historian and from 1916 to 1950 head of the Dortmund City Archives .

The Protestant Luise von Winterfeld was the daughter of the Prussian Colonel Ludwig von Winterfeld (1853-1904) and his wife Cäcilie, née Krüger (1859-1926). Major General Ludwig von Winterfeld was her grandfather.

education

She received her schooling first from 1888 to 1895 at the municipal high school for girls in Minden and from 1895 to 1898 at Marie Boretius' private school in Berlin-Charlottenburg , before she spent a year in a pension of the Brethren in Montmirail near Thielle . Following this, she laid in November 1901 in the then the German Reich belonging Lorraine Metz teachers exam and taught subsequently at various schools in Berlin and Potsdam . In September 1906, she entered senior teacher courses in Göttingen , but soon afterwards decided to supplement her previous school education. Career

In 1912 von Winterfeld came to Cologne as a trainee to the city ​​archive, which is under the direction of Joseph Hansen , long-time chairman of the Society for Rhenish History . From there, von Winterfeld finally took over the management of the Dortmund City Archives in 1916, succeeding Karl Rübel . In 1927 she was appointed director, making her the first female director of a large city archive in Germany until she retired in 1950.

From 1932 to 1950 she acted as editor of the book series Contributions to the History of Dortmund and the Grafschaft Mark of the Historical Association for Dortmund and the Grafschaft Mark , of which she was appointed honorary chairman in 1950. In 1962, on her 80th birthday, she was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.

Her grave is in Dortmund's main cemetery .
