Karl Rottmanner

Karl von Rottmanner (born October 30, 1783 in Munich , † July 8, 1824 in Ast ) was a German poet, philosopher and politician.

Life

The son of the agricultural reformer and landowner Simon Rottmanner and Maria Anna Barbara Paur (1746–1828) studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Landshut , where he received his doctorate. phil. During his studies he belonged to a Bavarian patriotic youth movement around the medical student Johann Nepomuk von Ringseis (1785–1880): “Their romantic exuberance, not free from enthusiastic pose, gave the small, but gifted and noble-minded group in poems one expression that is still valid, if not artistically permanent. Among its most creative members were the medical student Joseph Löw and the lawyer Karl Rottmanner. “ Rottmanner's support for Romanticism is testimony to his advocacy of a reassessment of the Christian Middle Ages and his collection of Bavarian folk songs.

Rottmanner later became a member of the second chamber of the Bavarian state parliament , landlord and writer.

He was married to Maria Theresia Paur (1796–1837). On July 10, 1824 he was buried in Ast.
