Karl Rudolph (botanist)

Karl Rudolph (born April 11, 1881 in Teplitz , † March 2, 1937 in Prague ) was an Austrian botanist and paleobotanist .

Karl Rudolph, the son of an architect, studied at the University of Vienna from 1899 to 1905, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD , as well as chemistry, botany, mineralogy and zoology in Jena at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . From 1906 he had an assistant position with Friedrich Czapek at the University of Czernowitz and later at the German University in Prague under Günther Beck von Mannagetta and Lerchenau . From 1919 he was a private lecturer in systematic botany in Prague . In 1924 he received the title of associate professor and in 1931 he became an associate professor in Prague.

The importance of his scientific work lies in the field of the morphology of recent and fossil plants. He saw bog studies as an important source of knowledge about the development of vegetation.
