Karl Schermann

Karl Schermann (born April 1, 1950 in Niederbayern) is a German newspaper journalist , former editor- in- chief at tz and Münchner Merkur .

Life

Scherman grew up in Lower Bavaria. He did his journalistic traineeship at Münchner Merkur. He then became editor and later local manager of the Munich tabloid tz . He was already deputy editor-in-chief at the Passauer Neue Presse . From February 1, 1999, he took over the chief position at tz . During his time as head of tz , the "Schweinsteiger Affair" fell, which ended with the departure of the newspaper's deputy editor-in-chief and sports director. On January 1, 2007, he succeeded Ernst Hebeker as editor-in-chief of the flagship of the Munich newspaper publishing house GmbH & Co. KG, namely the Münchner Merkur.

At the end of 2013, Schermann retired and handed over the chief position at Merkur to Bettina Bäumlisberger on January 1, 2014 .

For six episodes of seasons 5 and 6 of the television crime series Munich 7 , retired Schermann slipped into the role of a Catholic priest in 2014. In 2009 he had already taken on a small role as a councilor for the fifth episode of the third season of the television series Der Kaiser von Schexing .

For a short time, Schermann's return to the vacant post of boss at Münchner Merkur was in the room when Bäumlisberger vacated her post on March 31, 2016 in a conflict with publisher Dirk Ippen . However, he canceled for health reasons.

The retired newspaper journalist was also a lecturer at the German School of Journalism in the past .

A book by Karl Scherman was published in 2003 while he was still head of the newspaper, which is documentary about children from all over the world.
