Karl Schröder (politician, 1866)

Karl Schröder , also: Carl (born February 14, 1866 in Rosenthal ; † July 11, 1940 in Osterode am Harz ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Schröder came from a working class family. After graduating from elementary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a shoemaker and worked in the profession he had learned until 1902. He then worked as a warehouse keeper at the consumer associations in Brandenburg an der Havel and Hersfeld . From 1911 to 1933 he worked as a cooperative employee and warehouse keeper in Osterode, most recently as administrator of a central warehouse. In addition, he was managing director of the savings and construction association Osterode from 1925 to 1933.

Schröder joined the SPD at the end of the 19th century. During the November Revolution he was a member of the Workers 'and Soldiers' Council in Osterode, where he headed the Social Democrats until 1933. From 1919 to 1933 he was a city councilor in Osterode as well as a district committee member, district council member and district deputy of the district of Osterode . In February 1921 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged without interruption until the end of the fourth legislative period in 1933. In parliament he represented constituency 16 (south Hanover).

His son Kurt Schröder (1906–1964) was later a member of the Bundestag and senior district director of the Osterode district.
