Karl Storz (* 1911 in Tuttlingen ; † 1996 ibid) was a German entrepreneur and inventor , as well as the founder of the company Karl Storz Endoskope in Tuttlingen.

Storz founded his company, which manufactures endoscopes and other medical devices, in 1945. With over 400 patents on his inventions, he has significantly influenced the development of endoscopy . Above all, his idea of ​​using cold light sources to illuminate the interior of the body (from 1960) was trend-setting here. Storz managed the family business until his death in 1996. Under his daughter and successor Sybill Storz , the company finally rose to become the world market leader in the production of endoscopes. Karl Storz's inventions paved the way for the development of minimally invasive surgery and the early detection of diseases .

Awards

In 1985 the University of Marburg awarded Karl Storz an honorary doctorate in medicine.

After his death, a street that also runs along the company's logistics center in the north of Tuttlingen was called Karl-Storz-Straße.

The German Society for Telemedicine awards a Karl Storz Telemedicine Prize , the German Society for Phoniatrics and Pediatric Audiology the Karl Storz Prize for teaching in phoniatrics - pediatric audiology .
