Geassocieerde Pers services

The Geassocieerde Pers Diensten (GPD) are a Dutch news agency based in The Hague . In contrast to the country's other news agency, ANP, only regional newspapers in the Netherlands and Flanders are supplied . In addition to general news, background reports on business, sport, art, media, entertainment and consumption are also provided in words and pictures. The agency employs around 80 editors and 19 foreign correspondents.

The forerunners of the GPD were the "Vereeniging voor de Groote Provinciale Dagbladen" (later renamed "Gemeenschappelijke Pers Dienst"), founded in 1936 by the directors of some regional newspapers, and the "Stichting Pers Unie" founded in 1964, which originally comprised exclusively Catholic newspapers. On January 1, 1994, the merger of the two press services created the new news agency and was given its current name.
