Memorial for Karl Straub and the fallen soldiers of the Rhön Club on the Heidelstein in the Rhön

In 1923 he initiated a memorial on the Heidelstein as a memorial for the members of the Rhön Club who died in World War I. In 1949 a memorial stone was added for himself.

In 1924 a Rhön calendar was published for the first time by the Rhön Club, edited by Karl Straub .

In March 1924 his work The Rhön in the course of the months was published , in which there is a general explanation for each month, followed by the "manners and customs of the Rhöner" in that month. Due to its great success with readers and critics, it was supplemented and reissued in May of the following year. With the little book, Karl Straub wanted to "contribute to the fact that the untruths about the Rhön, which are still to be found in many books, finally disappear, that misconceptions about the alleged country of the poor people are more and more eliminated so that the Rhön, as wonderful flower in the wreath of German low mountain ranges, so appreciated as it really deserves it according to its beauty and character. " (from the preface) .

In the 1930s he campaigned for the Franken am Dammersfeld house, which was acquired by the Rhönklub branch in Würzburg in 1920 . With the establishment of the military training area in the spring of 1938, however, it had to give way, so the foundation stone for the “Würzburg House” on the Farnsberg opposite was laid in the summer of the same year . Today this house bears the name of Karl Straub, next to the house stands his bronze portrait.

A plaque on the house where he was born can be found in Salz on the way to Bad Neustadt an der Saale , a memorial in the cemetery. An 8.5 km long Karl Straub circular path was laid out around the village. A street in the village is named after him. In Bad Neustadt, a special school for promoting learning got its name.
