Karl Tuschl

Karl Tuschl (born October 14, 1858 in Vienna ; † November 21, 1943 there ; also Carl Tuschl ) was an Austrian actor , director and theater director .

Life

Karl Tuschl was the son of a businessman. He already played as a child actor in the Theater an der Wien . He began his professional stage career as an actor in 1880 in the New World establishment in Hietzing . He played in the German Empire , including in Berlin , and from 1886 in the Graz City Theater .

Soon afterwards Tuschl returned to Vienna. First at the Carltheater , then at the Theater in der Josefstadt , he made a name for himself as a character comedian . At the beginning of the 20th century he worked as an actor and director in Gabor Steiner's stages, Danzer's Orpheum and the summer theater in the Kaisergarten . There he played one of his most famous roles, the "Knickebein" in the operetta Spring Air . In 1907 Tuschl took over the management of Danzer's Orpheum for some time from Steiner. Wilhelm Karczag engaged the actor and director in 1913 at the Theater an der Wien. Tuschl worked there until 1935.

He died eight years later at the age of 85 after a brief illness and was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery . In 1959, Tuschlgasse in Vienna- Inzersdorf was named after him.
