Karl Ulrich Bartz-Schmidt

Karl Ulrich Bartz-Schmidt (born May 29, 1960 in Lahnstein ) is a German ophthalmologist .

Life

Bartz-Schmidt graduated from the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz with a degree in human medicine between 1982 and 1988 and then began his training as a specialist in ophthalmology at the eye clinic of the Evangelisches Stift Hospital in Koblenz . In 1990 he went to the Center for Ophthalmology at the University of Cologne , where he completed his specialist training in 1992. Afterwards, Bartz-Schmidt worked there from 1992 to 1996 as senior physician and from 1996 to 1999 as chief senior physician and representative of the director of the department for retinal and vitreous surgery. In January 1998 he obtained the license to teach ophthalmology.

In 2000 Bartz-Schmidt became director of the department for diseases of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen and in 2007 he was also the medical director of the university eye clinic.

His specialty is retinology , from 2004 to 2012 Bartz-Schmidt was the chairman of the Retinological Society. In 2014 he took over the presidency of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG).
