Karl Würbel

Karl Theodor Würbel (born June 4, 1890 in Schruns ; † July 28, 1983 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and municipal secretary. From 1945 to 1949 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Würbel completed his compulsory school time at the elementary school in Schruns and worked from 1940 to 1948 as a community employee for the community of Schruns. He was then employed as the District Secretary of the Socialist Party of Austria in Bludenz between 1949 and 1950 and then between 1950 and 1955 as the municipal secretary and deputy head of the holiday fund.

Politics and functions

Würbel became involved in the Schruns municipal council from 1919, where he was active for the Social Democratic Party. His membership in the municipal council ended in 1934 in the wake of the Austrian Civil War and the subsequent ban on the Social Democratic Party. From 1919 to 1934 he was also the local party leader of the Schruns Social Democratic Party and held this position between 1945 and 1961 after the Second World War.

He was active as a works council and in the trade union movement and was works council chairman of the union at the Spullersee construction site from 1923 to 1926 and then from 1926 to 1927 as works council chairman for the Illwerke -materialbahn construction site in Partenen . He was also active as a member of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labor from 1923 to 1934 . In the final phase of the Second World War, Würbel was arrested by the Gestapo for political reasons in 1945 and deported to Innsbruck .

After the end of the Second World War, Würbel represented the SPÖ from December 11, 1945 to October 24, 1949 in the Vorarlberg state parliament. He was a member of the Bludenz constituency and a member of the Economics Committee, a member of the Education Committee and a substitute member of the Agriculture Committee.

Private

Karl Theodor Würbel was born as the son of court adjunct and innkeeper Hermann Josef Würbel and his wife Sabina Aloisia Würbel, née Barbisch (1860-1919) in Schruns. He married Amalia Maurer (1894–1972) from Biberach on October 24, 1921 in Rankweil and had three daughters and two sons.
