Karl Walter Kamper (born April 20, 1941 in Pittsburgh , † February 2, 1998 ) was an American astronomer and asteroid discoverer.
His main field of research were astrometry and spectroscopy of visual and spectroscopic binaries as well as the measurement of the proper motion of the remains of the supernova CAS A .
From 1969 to 1970 he worked at the Lick Observatory , moved from there to the Van Vleck Observatory and finally in 1974 to the David Dunlap Observatory , where he remained until his death.
Between 1963 and 1978 he discovered a total of 3 asteroids .
