Karl Wagner (sculptor)

Karl Wagner , also Carl Wagner , (born July 14, 1886 in Mainz , † September 1, 1966 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Karl Wagner completed an apprenticeship as a stucco and stone sculptor , followed by years of traveling . He then attended the art academy in Mainz and from 1907 studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule and the Städelschule in Frankfurt under Friedrich Christoph Hausmann and Josef Kowarzik .

In 1911 he moved into his first studio in Wiesbaden with the help of a grant from Rose Livingston . As early as 1914 he moved to a studio in the society house of the Frankfurt Zoological Garden . In 1946 he set up a studio in the former Boehle house on Sachsenhausen waiting . After the Second World War, Karl Wagner chaired the Frankfurter Künstlergesellschaft and was a board member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists. He died in an accident in 1966 at the age of 80.

Wagner's artistic work mainly includes animal sculptures, but also portrait busts , commemorative plaques , tombs and works in public space in Frankfurt.
