Karl Eberhard Graf von Sievers (born June 21, 1745 in Bauenhof , today: Bauņu , near Wolmar ; † May 21, 1821 in Wenden ) was a German-Baltic officer and a Russian councilor .

Life

Karl was the son of the Holstein chancellery and Livonian landlord zu Bauenhof Joachim von Sievers (1699–1770). He had several brothers, including the Russian statesman and diplomat Jacob Johann von Sievers .

Karl v. Sievers studied at the University of Kiel and then entered the Holstein military service. In 1768 he became a lieutenant in the infantry in Austria . In 1776 he returned to Russia as a major. Here he acquired Wenden Castle in 1777 and had the famous landscape garden laid out there from 1812 .

Karl von Sievers married Magda Freiin von Mengden (* July 17, 1748, † August 31, 1837). One of their children was the later governor of Prussia Carl Gustav von Sievers .
