Chai Chidchob ( Thai : ชัย ชิด ชอบ ; born April 5, 1928 in Phia Ram, Surin Province ; † January 24, 2020 in Buri Ram Province ) was a Thai politician and speaker of the House of Representatives .

Career

He began his political career as a Kamnan (head of the municipality) in Buriram Province . He made his first political experience at the national level in 1957.

In 2007 Chai was elected to the Thai parliament. In the course of his political career he belonged to various parties, including the Democratic Party , the Samakkhitham Party (Thai: พรรค สามัคคีธรรม ), the Chart Thai Party and the Thai Rak Thai . From May 15, 2008 to August 3, 2011 he was Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives . He was followed by Somsak Kiatsuranont for in this position.

Because of the protests by the red shirts in Bangkok too few MPs appeared in the House of Representatives in April 2010, which is why Chai broke off a meeting early.

After that, Chai Chidchob was a MP for the Bhumjaithai party .

family

Chai Chidchob was married to La-ong, with whom he had six children (five sons and one daughter). One of his sons is Newin Chidchob , who is also an influential politician.
