Karl von Zyllnhardt (forester)

Karl von Zyllnhardt (born June 21, 1744 at the Dilsberg mountain fortress ; † January 23, 1816 in Munich ) was the landlord in Mauer and head of the Bavarian General Forest Administration.

Life

He was the eldest son of Johann Friedrich von Zyllnhardt, the Electoral Palatinate captain and commanding officer at the Dilsberg fortress. After the early death of his father, he was a page at the Count's Leiningen court and then entered the Hesse-Darmstadt military service. In 1769 he switched to the electoral Palatinate military service to the Dragoon Regiment in Heidelberg , then he served in the Prince Max Regiment in Neuburg and Munich.

From 1778 he was married to Eleonore von Roman, who died a few years after the birth of their son Karl von Zyllnhardt (1779-1828). The son was first brought up by relatives on the maternal side in Ludwigsburg, before Zyllnhardt brought him to the country estate in Mauer in 1787, where he was educated by private teachers and also taught himself. In 1788 Zyllnhardt also had the carefree pleasure palace built in Mauer .

In 1789 he followed a call from the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt as Colonel and Head of the Hesse-Darmstadt War Department, but stopped working before the end of the year and retired from military service in order to retire to his estate, where he was devoted himself to cattle breeding and fruit growing. He was extremely well-read and published many articles about his successes in improving cattle breeding and fruit growing.

In 1795 he was appointed regional chief hunter in the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken. In this position he has published numerous other papers on the improvement of agriculture and forestry . In 1803 he was electoral Landjäger- and Oberforstmeister in the Principality of Würzburg. After the Peace of Pressburg he was appointed head of the secret Central Forest Bureau in Munich. He remained head of the Bavarian General Forest Administration in Munich until his death.
