history

On November 23, 1896, the Academic Pharmaceutical Association "Gifthütte" was founded, which arose from the pharmacists' circle. When it was founded, only pharmacy students could join the Fridericiana Technical University (today KIT ). Later, in the winter semester of 1898/1899, the name was changed to "Academic Pharmaceutical Society Karlsruhe". On May 7, 1899, the association joined the Association of Scientific Associations (VWV) of the Fridericiana Technical University; two years later the first coat of arms was designed. The motto was “in unitate robur” - strength lies in unity.

In 1906 it was decided to open up to other faculties, which resulted in another renaming to “Akademischer Verein Gifthütte”.

In 1902 the ULK Academic Stammtisch was founded. This was a community of students who were in close contact with the “poison hut”. On February 17, 1912, ULK merged with Gifthütte to form the “Karlsruhe Burschenschaft Ghibellinia”. At the same time, she joined the General German Burschenbund (ADB).

The ADB was forcibly merged with the Deutsche Burschenschaft (DB) by the Nazi regime in 1934 and was not re-established after the Second World War . In the same year KB! Ghibellinia approved as the 6th Karlsruhe fraternity by the Senate of the Technical University of Fridericiana. Due to the pressure exerted by the political system on free-thinking associations in general, the DB fraternities laid down their colors on the Wartburg in Eisenach on October 18, 1935. In the same year the KB suspended! Ghibellinia.

In the early post-war period, KB! Ghibellinia helped found the DB, which in its beginnings showed more in common with the liberal-democratic legacy of the original fraternity. So was z. B. The decision about fencing was left to the discretion of the individual fraternity, while the DB until 1933 - and in this it differed significantly from the ADB - had rigidly adhered to the principle of compulsory censorship. In 1954 the KB! Ghibellinia due to the reintroduction of compulsory censorship from the DB and has not remained striking to this day.

However, the idea of an association of like-minded people was by no means abandoned. As early as December 18, 1954, attempts were made to found the German Burschenschafterbund (DBB) in Gießen with similar connections . This happened in 1957 under the name Deutscher Burschenring (DBR), but KB! Ghibellinia does not agree with him despite intensive preparations for the foundation. Until today the KB! Ghibellinia remained free of associations .

The KB! Ghibellinia is still committed to the values of the former ADB (e.g. the rejection of the fuxen ligament) and maintains close contacts to the still existing ADB associations.

The fraternity house

The connection house in Stephanienstraße

In the winter semester of 1924/25, KB! Ghibellinia bought the house at Karlsstrasse 1, which had to be sold again in 1935 due to the events.

In 1950, a piece of rubble was bought at Stephanienstraße 29. The house was largely rebuilt by the liaison members themselves, since after the Second World War only the listed facade and the vaulted cellar remained. The inauguration of the completed, today's fraternity house took place on November 29, 1963. It has 9 student rooms, various common and common rooms and a guest room. In the basement there is a small Kneipaal and a bar. In addition, the house has another, larger Kneipaal on the ground floor.
