Karmei Tzur

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karmei Tzur ( Hebrew כרמי צור, German Weinberge von Zur ) is an Israeli settlement in the West Bank with 1047 inhabitants (2016). It is east of the Israeli barrier wall , a good eight kilometers from the green line , north of Hebron .

The settlement was founded in 1984 by yeshiva students, settlers from Allon Shevut and belongs to the Gush Etzion settlement block . It was named after the nearby biblical place Beit Tzur (Joshua 15:58). Karmei Tzur lies between the Palestinian villages of Bait Ummar and Halhul . For the construction of the settlement, land was partially expropriated from the residents of Bait Ummar and Halhul. In January 2001 the settlers of Karmei Tzur founded the Tzur Shalem outpost, which is also illegal under Israeli law, 400 meters from the settlement .
