founding

The convent was established in a former Servite monastery from 1693 (closed in 1978), which was subsequently transferred to the diocese of St. Pölten , renovated and adapted to the way of life of the Carmelites. In the monastery church there is a miraculous image of the Mater Dolorosa that has existed in Maria Jeutendorf since the middle of the 17th century , whose patronage church and Carmel were consecrated. A few years later, on the feast of the Sorrowful Mother of God in 1988, the place Jeutendorf changed its name to Maria Jeutendorf.

In 1985 a convent of five professed sisters and two novices took up life in Maria Jeutendorf and on November 27, 1985 elected the first prioress , Sr. Michaela of the Power of God, who returned to the Graz convent after the end of her term of office. Since 2010 Sr. Maria Johanna of the Incarnation has been Prioress of Mater Dolorosa.
