The Carmelite Monastery of Zagórz was a monastery of the Carmelite Order in Zagórz in the Polish Subcarpathian Voivodeship on Mariemont Hill in the Buków Mountains on the Osława River . It existed from 1714 to 1831. The buildings have been preserved as ruins.
history
There was probably a medieval castle on the hill, which fell into disrepair before 1651. The monastery was founded in 1700 and built in the late baroque style until 1730. The Carmelites moved into the monastery building in 1714. The monastery was built as a fortified monastery on the southern Polish-Lithuanian border . During the Confederation of Bar , the monastery was besieged by Russian troops in 1772 and partially destroyed. The reconstruction after the First Partition of Poland dragged on until 1822, when the monastery fell victim to a fire. The Carmelites were moved to Przeworsk and Lemberg in 1831 , and the monastery fell into ruin over the next few decades. Reconstruction is always considered.
location
