Carmelite convent in Vic-sur-Seille

The Carmelite convent in Vic-sur-Seille , a French commune in the Moselle department in the historic Lorraine region , was built in the 17th century. The former convent of the Carmelites on the Place du Palais was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1986 as Monument historique .

history

The Carmelites had lived in Vic-sur-Seille since 1646 and were only allowed to build a monastery in 1675 . Construction work began around 1680.

After the monastery was closed during the Revolution , the buildings served as a prison and court. Today the monastery building is used as the Mairie (town hall) and the monastery church , which was converted into a market hall from 1876 , as an event hall.
