Karmijn de Sonnaville (also Karmijn ) ( ndl .: " Karminroter von Sonnaville") is a variety of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ).
The variety was bred in 1949 by Piet de Sonnaville (1917-1995) in Wageningen (in the province of Gelderland ) in the Netherlands from a cross of Cox Orange and Jonathan or Schöner von Boskoop , named after the often intense red color of the fruit and in the Trade given. The variety was commercially grown from 1971.
The fruit reaches a diameter of up to 8 cm, has a yellow-green basic color with a red covering color and has a sour, very aromatic-spicy pulp (with an aroma that is similar to Cox Orange ).
The Karmijn de Sonnaville is an autumn apple - it is ripe for picking in October and ready for consumption by December - if stored appropriately, it can also be used for longer. It is widespread as a lover variety - there is hardly any commercial cultivation. The tree places high demands on soil, location and care.
