List of apple varieties |
The Beautiful from Boskoop , the Germans usually short Boskop is one of the rennet apples scoring varieties of Culture apple and winter apples Act. His original name was Renette von Montfort . In Austria and Bavaria it is counted among the leather apples .
description
The large apples, which often weigh over 200 g, ripen at the end of September to mid-October and can be kept until March. They have a sour taste, the high acid content conceals the high sugar content.
The tree has a very strong, spreading crown. It prefers a location on heavy, moist and calcareous soil and is then long-lived. The variety has proven to be very robust against fire blight.
Cultivation
The variety is susceptible to core rot and meat browning , but only very slightly susceptible to scab .
Since the Boskoop is a triploid variety, it is not suitable for fertilization for other apple trees.
origin
The beautiful from Boskoop was discovered in 1856 as a chance seedling by the pomologist Kornelis Johannes Wilhelm Ottolander as a fruiting shoot of a wildling in Boskoop , Netherlands . It has been a widely used standard variety since 1863.
In 1923 a bud mutation was discovered in the Rhineland by the fruit tree grower Otto Schmitz-Hübsch , which has since been known as the Roter Boskoop . Apart from the color, this has the same properties as the original shape.
use
The apple can be used in many ways. Due to the high acid content, the Boskoop is well suited for the preparation of applesauce or apple pancakes as well as baking or roasting apples ; for lovers of acidic apples, it is an excellent dessert fruit. The Boskoop is also used for the production of juices, cider and fruit brandies .
For some apple allergy sufferers , this old apple variety is edible due to its low allergen content.
