Karoonda is a small town in the area of Murray Mallee in South Australia , 60 km northeast of Murray Bridge is located. The city name comes from the Aborigines and means winter camp. Karoonda became better known in 1930 when the Karoonda meteorite fell there in November 1930 .

The village was proclaimed a city on December 11, 1913. It is located in a wheat-growing area where merino sheep graze. There are also agricultural and vegetable growing businesses. Once a year there is an agricultural fair, the Karoonda Farm Fair , which is attended by over 10,000 visitors. There were also rail connections to the place, which were closed in 1990. Karoonda has recently been connected to a railway line again.

There is a school, a park and a museum in the city.
