Casimir († before 1281)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Casimir , also Casimir III. or Casimir the Younger († before 1281) was castellan of Kolberg . He was the last member of the Swantiboriden , a branch of the Greifenhaus ruling in the Duchy of Pomerania .

Casimir was the only known son of Swantibor , castellan of Kolberg. Kasimir's great-grandfather was Wartislaw Swantiboricz , the founder of the Kolbatz Monastery .

Casimir appears in Pomeranian documents from the 13th century. He was mentioned for the first time in a document from his father Swantibor from 1242, with which he transferred his remaining property in the Kolbatz region to the Kolbatz monastery. In a document from Duke Barnim I from 1244, with which the Duke confirmed a donation from Swantibor to the Kolbatz Monastery, Casimir heads the line of witnesses after his father Swantibor. The last sign of Kasimir's life is a document from 1274 with which he confirmed all possessions donated by him, his ancestors and other relatives to the Kolbatz Monastery. In a document from 1281 he is named as the deceased; presumably he died on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Casimir was like his father castellan of Kolberg . With his death, the branch line of the Swantiboriden became extinct.

His widow Miroslawa was married to the knight Johann Ramel in 1281 .

The counting of the members of the Greifenhaus has always been involved. From time immemorial there has been an inequality here that causes some confusion. The more modern approach basically only counts those relatives of the closer Greifenhaus who have reached adulthood . After that this Casimir as a member of the branch line of the Swantiboriden does not receive a number. If, on the other hand, one also counts the members of secondary lines, then the count can be as Casimir III. yield as reflected in Theodor Pyl in the general German biography found (1896); of course, the grandfather Casimir († around 1220) remains without a number. To distinguish it from his grandfather of the same name, this Casimir is also called Casimir the Younger .
