Kaspar Bolen (* unknown; † November 11, 1619 in Glees ) was a German monk and 29th abbot in Maria Laach monastery

Life

Nothing is known about the origins and education of Kaspar Bolen. Whether he came from the Electoral Trier official family Bolen is only a guess. He is first attested in January 1597 as a subprior and voter in the election of the abbot of Maria Laach Abbey, Johann Ahr. When he was elected his successor Johann Schweitzer in May 1613, Bolen was also present as prior. He had already received the office of prior in November 1612. In 1617 he was elected provost in Ebernach monastery .

If the information on his grave slab about his reign is correct; R (EVEREN) D (U) SD (OMI) N (U) S CASPARUS BOLEN XXIX ABBAS LACENSIS ELECTUS OBIIT A (NN) O MDCXIX XI NOVEMBRIS PRAEFUIT MENSES XI DIES XVIII, he was elected 29th Abbot of Maria Laach Monastery on November 23, 1618. Bolen was initially elected as coadjutor with the right of succession, as his predecessor was still alive at that time.

On April 15, 1619, Abbot Kaspar Bolen, Prior Heinrich Long (enus) and the “Capitulars” of Laach Abbey sold 2000 Cologne thalers to Dr. theol. Heinrich Franks from Siersdorf ( Sierstorphio ) as the main buyer an annual pension of 80 Cologne thalers due on the festival “Theophoria or Cölnish Gottesdracht”.

After a reign of 11 months and 18 days, he passed away as an elected but unconsecrated abbot (abbas lacensis electus) on the day of St. Martin on November 11, 1619.
