Life

Von Clotz was baptized Bartholdus Kaspar Maria Joseph on November 21, 1762 in Aachen. His parents were the aldermen Matthias Joseph von Clotz (1722–1780) and his wife Johanna Maria Therese von Collenbach (1737–1780).

In 1785 Kaspar Joseph von Clotz was first documented as a lay judge. In the same year he joined the star guild, the professional representation of the Aachen lay judges. In the mayoral election in 1789, the old and new parties faced each other as a result of the Aachen grievances . After Johann Michael Kreitz, a supporter of the old party had been elected as mayor from the guilds ( mayor ), Clotz was elected as mayor of lay judges as a compensation for Clotz as supporter of the new party . In the years that followed, there were no more mayoral elections. The French had temporarily suspended the imperial city constitution of Aachen, first in 1792/93 and then again from 1794. In 1794 von Clotz had fled Aachen from the French and returned in 1796. After the re-establishment of the imperial city constitution on April 5, 1797, von Clotz and Kreitz resumed their office. On September 29th of this year, elections took place again, from which Vincenz Philipp Freiherr de Witte de Limminghe emerged as mayor of lay judges and Andreas Monheim as mayor of the guilds. In 1798 the imperial city constitution was finally abolished. The penultimate mayors of the imperial city of Aachen were von Clotz and Kreitz .

Kaspar Joseph von Clotz remained unmarried. He died on August 19, 1818 in Bardenberg .
