history

Bardenberg (Bardunbach) is first mentioned in a document in 867 AD. The oldest evidence of mining comes from the year 1113. From the 14th century to the French era , the place belonged to the Duchy of Jülich . From 1798 to 1814 it was a Mairie in the canton of Eschweiler in the French Département de la Roer and from 1815 a municipality in the district of Aachen . From 1808 on, Bardenberg belonged to the district of the Eschweiler Peace Court , later to the Aachen District Court . Due to the Aachen law , on January 1, 1972, the center of Bardenberg and the district of Pley came to the new town of Würselen , but the districts of Niederbardenberg and Wefelen to the new town of Herzogenrath . Duffesheide, which also belonged to the municipality of Bardenberg, was assigned to the city of Alsdorf. Three city limits run through the former municipality of Bardenberg today.

The former Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bardenberg merged in 2001 with the Würselener Hospital to form the Medical Center District Aachen and has been its Bardenberg division ever since. The nucleus of the old miners' hospital was founded on April 1st, 1856 in a former inn in the center of Bardenberg with eight beds, a nurse and a housekeeper. This hospital in the middle of what was then Aachen's coal mining area was one of the first miners' shank hospitals in the history of coal mining to be documented .

In recent years Bardenberg, with the two new development areas Höfe-Viertel (Am Kuckhof, Am Stevenhof, Oststraße) and Schützenwiese (Hesselerstraße, Kelleterstraße, Knappschaftstraße, Kremerstraße, Nellessenstraße) has been one of the rapidly growing parts of Würselen .

Sports

In Bardenberg there are two large sports clubs: the football club SC Sparta Bardenberg (until June 30, 2017 SC 1930 Bardenberg - renamed to SC Sparta Bardenberg as of July 1, 2017 through the merger with Sparta Würselen) and the handball club VfL Bardenberg (in the youth area HSG Würselen) . VfL Bardenberg currently plays in the league of the handball association Mittelrhein. In addition, VfL has two other men's teams, two women's teams and a very successful youth department that has qualified for the major league several times in the last two years. The home games of VfL Bardenberg take place in the Walter-Rütt-Halle in Morsbach (Würselen) , the SC Sparta Bardenberg plays on the club's own sports field in Bardenberg (Zechenstrasse) and since the merger in 2017 also on the sports facility in Birkenstrasse.

Another club is the Turngemeinde Bardenberg eV Since 1892 this has numerous committed trainers. In the various sports groups, such as women's gymnastics, badminton, parent-child gymnastics, children's gymnastics and the equipment performance group, sports enthusiasts meet every week to train together. Numerous successes have already been achieved.

Home theater

In 1897 a theater association was founded in Bardenberg. The aim was to expand the calendar of cultural events for the approximately 3,200 residents. The first Bardenberg theater association operated under the name Dilettantenbund . Other theater associations were added, such as the St. Joseph Association , the Youth Association and the Women's Congregation of the Parish of St. Peter and Paul . In 1917 the youth club stopped playing. It is not possible to know when the women's congregation stopped playing. In 1912 another association was founded under the name Dramatic Association Fidelitas . With the outbreak of the First World War , the amateur play had to be discontinued because many members were called up. In 1919 the next theater association was founded under the name Fidele Freunde .

Wilhelmstein Castle , built in Bardenberg on a spur above the Wurmtal in the 13th century, was ideal for open-air theater . Negotiations were entered into with the then tenant of the castle ruins, Mr. Lausberg, in order to build an open-air stage behind the castle ruins. After completion of the facility, the only open-air stage in the Aachen district was opened on August 6, 1922 with the play " The Robbers " by Schiller .

In 1933, the three theater associations that still existed in Bardenberg had to merge into one association. The merger took place under the supervision of the NS party leadership in what was then the Steinbusch party club. From 1935 onwards there was only one theater association under the name of the "Bardenberg Stage and Open Air Theater". The warfare led to the cessation of theater in 1942. After the end of the war and the first rebuilding, the next task was to revive the open-air theater. With this resolution, the association got to work and celebrated the premiere on June 13, 1948 with the play " The Robbers ".

As early as 1950, the association was striving for final independence again. In order to make this clear to the outside world, the association decided on November 5, 1950 to drop the name that was imposed during the Nazi era and to rename the association. The new name could be put together from the club names of the three theater clubs still in existence at the time. So in the end the following name was determined: Dramatic Association of Dilettantenfreunde 1897 Bardenberg, Dramatic Association of Fidelitas, Dilettantenbund or Fidele Freunde .

The performances on the open-air stage ended after the performance in 1956 because the owner refused to use it again. From then on, the association had to be content with hall performances. Today the traditional club bears the name Heimatbühne DVD 1897 Bardenberg eV

On Ash Wednesday, February 6th, 2008, a second amateur theater group was founded in Bardenberg, the Theaterverein Bardenberg eV . The newly founded Theaterverein Bardenberg eV celebrated its premiere on October 18, 2008 in the multi-purpose hall Bardenberg and successfully concluded a season limited to four performances.
