Scherberg is a district of Würselen in the Aachen city region in North Rhine-Westphalia . Scherberg is located within today's Würselen urban area in the western part, the neighboring districts are Schweilbach in the north and Würselen in the east.
Origin of the place name
In Scherberg and, more clearly, in Scherpenberg , an attributive place-name formation can be seen that indicates the geographical situation of the settlement. The Rhenish adjective scherp (to ahd. Skarpf, skarf, mhd. Sharp, nhd. Sharp) is contained in appropriate terms and indicates something “steep, sloping”. N is Schernberg on the edge of the "steep" to worm sloping gently Talhanges, on the "sharp mountain".
Local infrastructure and special features
In Scherberg there are two kindergartens and a primary school with the possibility of all-day care.
The Catholic Church of St. Mary was built in 1925/26. Today the community belongs to the merged parish of St. Sebastian in Würselen.

The built-up area borders on the Wurmtal, which is under nature protection and serves as a recreational area . Some of the numerous mills that used the Wurm's water in earlier times belonged to its Scherberger area . The buildings of the Adam Mill , first mentioned in writing in 1456 , are still preserved and inhabited today. Parts of the facilities of the Wolfsfurt mill, which has been documented since 1200, and the later cloth factory are still there.
The former Kaisersruh estate is also in the area of the Scherberg district, on federal road 57 in the direction of Aachen . It was built in the 19th century mainly in a representative classical style and has now been completely renovated and restored. Gut Kaisersruh is listed with number two on the list of architectural monuments in Würselen .

The next motorway junctions are "Würselen" on the A 4 and " Broichweiden " on the A 44 . The next train station is " Kohlscheid " (district of Herzogenrath ) on the Aachen - Geilenkirchen - Mönchengladbach line .
