Kaspar Schwarz

Kaspar Schwarz (born January 6, 1811 ; † May 7, 1879 in Lasberg ) was a merchant and mayor of Freistadt .

Life

At the age of 19, Kaspar Schwarz bought house 151 in Freistadt, opened a colonial, dye and material shop at the age of 21 and then a dye works in Hafnerzeile. He bought the Englhof inn in Salzgasse and a brewery in Weinberg . After 1848 he was also active in the state parliament . In 1857 he bought the Johanneskirche in Freistadt and had it repaired and consecrated. He and his family are buried there.

Schwarz attended secondary school in Freistadt for three years. On August 23, 1823, he passed the entrance exam for the academic high school in Linz . After the third year of high school he moved to Kremsmünster . He completed his apprenticeship in Vienna.

After his death, the newspaper reported: "All the residents of Freistadt, the father died!"

Schwarz was mayor and head of the local school council in Lasberg for nine years . He founded the municipal savings bank and the grammar school .

The municipal council decided on February 22nd, 1866, under Mayor Kaspar Schwarz, to submit a petition to the Lieutenancy in Linz to set up a secondary school in Freistadt. The city agreed to provide the premises and to pay for the maintenance, heating and cleaning. In addition, the school clerk is paid and all the teaching materials required are purchased.

On December 25, 1866, the approval for the construction of the lower grammar school as a state institution came from Emperor Franz Joseph .

After Black was Kaspar Black street named in Freistadt.
