Kaspar Steiner was the son of an official from Emmen. His parents' house was the Spitalhof. Thanks to his middle-class background, he was able to attend the Jesuit high school in Lucerne for a few years from 1631 and then worked as a Sigrist and teacher in Emmen. Steiner, who already showed rebellious traits as a youth, joined the rebellious peasants in the Rothenburg office in 1653. However, he spoke out against violence and wanted to conduct diplomatic negotiations. After the peasants' defeat in the war, however, their extradition was demanded. Steiner was sentenced to death by hanging in Sursee and was publicly executed in his home village despite the intercession of the entire church attendance in Emmen.
