history

The choir was founded in the summer of 1977 by its conductor Norbert Ternes as an amateur choir . Since the beginning he has mainly performed church music choral works from all epochs of music history. Over the years a well-harmonized ensemble has emerged that has been giving several concerts every year at a high musical level since 1981. His sphere of activity is not limited to the area of ​​the city of Kassel, but includes the entire north Hessian area.

The repertoire includes works by the namesake Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Handel choral works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. The choir also performs works by lesser-known composers and musical rarities, some of which are premieres in Kassel.

These include the 2006 “ Petite Messe solennelle ” by Gioacchino Rossini , the passion oratorio “The Death of Jesus” by Carl Heinrich Graun and the cantatas by Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn .
