The former electoral Kastenamt Kemnath or the electoral Kastenhof is located on the town square of the Upper Palatinate town of Kemnath .

history

According to the information in the Historical Atlas of Bavaria , Kemnath had been the official residence of a Kastner since the 15th century and, at the end of the 17th century, the district judge. Both functions were previously performed from Waldeck Castle . In the Salbuch of 1492 the area is divided into two parts, the upper rule Waldeck and the lower rule. For these two administrative districts, the respective riches (cash interest for cheese, carnival and autumn hens, hemp money or dog money, Scharwerkfron , pasture money for sheep, tithe and grain interest, forest oats, money interest from the cone law, offsetting of penalties and change) were listed separately.

In 1698 the seat of the district judge Thomas von Mancolini was moved from Süßenfeld to Kaibitz from Waldeck Castle to the city. This was caused by a fire that damaged the judge's house. The fire was triggered by the carelessness of two flax hackers who hacked flax at night in the so-called Pfaff's parlor by the light of the Schleßenlicht, and took place on October 18, 1665; the registry, equipment and ammunition were destroyed. The district judge moved into the buildings in the city that adjoined the caste office. The offices of the Mautner and the district judge were reunited in one hand.

Construction

The Kastenhof is a two-story, plastered solid building with a gable roof and a curved, Renaissance-era stepped gable. It has three-story sandstone reveals, buttresses and a bay window. After the city fire of 1572, the building was rebuilt on late medieval components. In 1903 the volute gable was partially renewed and the building was extended to the south. Together with the building at Stadtplatz 38, the former district office building, a three-wing complex was formed, a two-storey solid building with a gable roof, a stone facade, a central projection and a simple facade structure. This part of the building was built in 1823 and remodeled around 1900; it is used today as the town hall .

A hall-like hallway is located on the ground floor of the caste office. The keystones of the two cross yokes bear the coat of arms of the Electoral Palatinate , the year 1573 and a maker's mark. This part of the building was rebuilt in its original state after the city fire of 1572. On the right, as seen from the entrance, is the boardroom; this is equipped with four cross yokes, which rest on a round central pillar. The final signs are again the Electoral Palatinate coat of arms and maker's mark. The style of the meeting room is similar to that of the Kemnath parish church built in 1488 . On the western window are lion heads and the year 1582, the time when the outer facade was restored. On the upper floor there is the year 1625 on the window pillar, the time when the entire building was restored, and a stonemason's mark.
