The Katāʾib Shams ash-Shimāl ( Arabic كتائب شمس الشمال), German battalions of the Sun of the North , are a unit that has existed since April 2014 , in which Kurdish fighters of the People's Defense Units (YPG) and Turkmens serve together in Syria . The unit also belongs to the Alwiya Fajr al-Ḥurriyya coalition , which in turn united with the Kurdish Jabhat al-Akrād to form the army of revolutionaries in May 2015 and joined the Assyrian - Aramaic Military Council of the Assyrians (MFS) and other units in October 2015 the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) united.
