Katana is a Swedish heavy metal band from Gothenburg . The band name refers to a Japanese long sword ( katana ). The texts therefore deal primarily with topics from Japanese or Asian culture. Stylistic role models are bands like Iron Maiden , Judas Priest and Accept .
history
Even before the release of their first album, the band was able to gain a certain degree of popularity in the Swedish underground. Her first single Heart of Tokyo was released in 2006 under the Blindfoldead Productions label .
In 2010 the band won the Swedish edition of the Wacken Metal Battle, which earned them an appearance at the Wacken Open Air and the Sweden Rock Festival that same year . As a result, the French label Listenable Records , which until then mainly recorded bands from the extreme metal sector , became aware of Katana. Under this label, the first studio album Heads Will Roll was released in 2011 , which reached number 42 in the Swedish charts. This was followed by a tour with Chris Holmes' (ex WASP ) new band Where Angels Suffer .
The second album Storms of War was released in 2012 and reached number 33 in the Swedish charts.
