Katarzyna Sobczyk

Katarzyna Sobczyk (civil Kazimiera Sawicka ; born February 21, 1945 in Tyczyn , † July 28, 2010 in Warsaw ) was a Polish pop singer .

Life

Katarzyna Sobczyk was born in Tyczyn and attended elementary school No. 4 in Koszalin . Later she attended a music school and traveled to concerts not only in Poland but also abroad. In 1963 she took part in the Szukamy młodych talentów (German We are looking for young talent ) competition and was able to place in the top ten. The following year she became the singer of the group Czerwono-Czarni ( Red-Black ). With this group she was able to take first place at the Music Festival in Opole ( Krajowy Festiwal Piosenki Polskiej w Opolu ) with O mnie się nie martw ( Don't worry about me ) in 1964 . In the following year she was able to win first place again, this time with the song Nie wiem czy to warto ( I don't know if it's worth it ). In 1966 she toured the USA and Canada abroad.

In 1969 she left Czerwono-Czarni and founded the group Wiatraki with Ryszard Poznakowski, which quickly disintegrated and Katarzyna Sobczyk toured Poland solo. In the early 1980s she was briefly in the USA again, but returned to Poland. In 1992 she moved to Chicago , in 1998 her husband Henryk Fabian died . In 2008 she was diagnosed with cancer and therefore returned to Poland. Katarzyna Sobczyk died on July 28, 2010 due to her illness.
