Tyczyn is a town in the powiat Rzeszowski of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with around 11,750 inhabitants.

history

Pałac Wodzickich, now a high school

The place was founded in 1368 under the name Tyczczin by Bartold Tyczner and originally belonged to the Sanoker Land , Ruthenian Voivodeship . In the following period the city was named Thiczin (1403), Tyczin (1404), Thijczin (1409), Tyczyn (1412), Thiczin, Tyczyn (1420), oppidum Tyczenense (1430), Teczin (1441), Tyczschin, Tluczin [ !] (1446), Tetschin (1447), Chyczyn (1461), Thyczczin (1466), Thyczczen (1481) mentioned. At that time the name of the town was very similar to the name of Neu- and Alttitschen (Tyczyn, Thiczyn, Titschein, Ticzen) in North Moravia .

Later, some of the residents here became the so-called forest Germans . counted, with a significant Jewish portion justifying consideration as a shtetl .

Today Tyczyn belongs to the diocese of Rzeszów with its own deanery .
