Kateretes pedicularius , also known asthe sedge beetle , is a beetle fromthe Kateretidae family .
features
The beetles are 1.6-3 mm long. They usually have a yellow-red base color with darkening on the scutellum and along the suture of the wing cover. However, the basic color is variable, so that there are also examples with a brown-black color. The posterior pronotum corners are broad and rounded. The first antenna element is widened laterally.
distribution
Kateretes pedicularius is a Palearctic species. It is widespread in Europe.
Way of life
The typical habitat of the species is formed by wetlands, bogs and wet meadows. The beetles usually fly from March to July. The larvae live in the flowers of rushes ( Juncus ) and sedges ( Carex ). They pupate in the ground.
