Katharina Rosenberger

Katharina Rosenberger (* 1971 in Zurich ) is a Swiss composer and sound artist. She lives in Los Angeles ( United States ).

Life

Katharina Rosenberger studied in London at the Royal Academy of Music with Michael Finnissy . After completing her master's degree, she did a PhD in composition with Tristan Murail at Columbia University in New York. Rosenberger is now a professor at the University of California, San Diego .

As a composer, Rosenberger does a lot of interdisciplinary work and therefore often works with other artists. In her projects she often works with elements from the visual arts, video, theater, light and dance. She also often uses electronic means. For example, she developed the interactive sound and video installation “Viva Voce” for and with the three vocal performers Shelley Hirsch , Juliana Snapper and Pamela Z. Her compositional techniques are among others. a. influenced by the spectralism . So based twist (2008) for piano on an analysis of the lowest octave of the piano. You are also interested in lines, textures and shapes from the anatomy and morphology of plants. The structure of phragmacone (2004–2010) for alto saxophone follows the logarithmic spirals of a nautilus shell.
