Katharina zu Stolberg (* between May 30 and June 4, 1463 ; † August 19, 1535 in Drübeck ) was abbess of the Drübeck Monastery .

Life

She was the daughter of Count Heinrich d. Ä. zu Stolberg (1433-1511). At the age of six she was referred to as a nun in the Rohrbach monastery , and in 1491 she worked there as a singing master. In 1501 she was elected abbess at Drübeck Abbey. She held this position for 34 years until her death in 1535. In the last years of her life she found herself exposed more and more to the Reformation influences on monastic life. She died on the night of the Thursday after the Assumption (August 19) 1535 and was buried in the choir of the old collegiate church. Her artistically designed tombstone from 1555, which was created by master Christoph from Halberstadt , is still in the Drübeck monastery church today. On her tombstone is written in Latin: "Catharina hopes, according to human fate, to enjoy the joy of eternal life in Christ"
