Immaculate Conception Cathedral (Beijing)

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Beijing (Chin. 宣武门 天主堂 Xuānwǔmén Tiānzhǔtáng), which is also known locally under the name Nántáng (南 堂 " South Cathedral ", " South Church ", " South Cathedral "), is a Roman Catholic church in Beijing , China .
It is located on Qianmen West Street in Xuanwumen Area, Xicheng District .
The church is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Beijing .
history
First of all, the Italian Jesuit Matteo Ricci built a house with a small chapel for his religious activities on this site (1605), which later became part of the Qing Dynasty , in the 7th year of the reign of Emperor Shunzhi (1650) German Jesuit Johann Adam Schall von Bell was expanded.
The cathedral has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-165) since 1996 .
